The 20th Anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Happy 20th Anniversary to Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!!

It was 20 years today that little Kristina, 9 years old, sat in front of the TV and fell in love with this quirky, scary, funny, empowered show. I was home every Tuesday night and my walls were soon covered in Buffy memorabilia. I've never been more a fan of anything in my entire life. 

Now that I think of it, kind of a weird show for a 9 year old, my mom definitely questioned some moments, but nothing could stop my love for the world created by Joss Whedon. To this day, the season 2 finale makes me cry, but of course, I'm a sucker for them all. I sat with my friend and a plethora of treats as the series finale unfolded. I remember the sadness of knowing it was the end. Sure there was Angel, but it wasn't the the same. 

There were certainly ups and downs, but the show stands as a wonderful, collective piece of work. Thank you to Joss Whedon for creating a show that showed an imperfect girl kicking ass on a weekly basis. Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a lovely note on Facebook about the 20th Anniversary. Women's Equality!

Yesterday I celebrated International Woman's Day by participating in A Day Without a Woman. I happened to be off that day, but I wore red in solidarity. It was organized by the incredible ladies who organized the Women's March in D.C. 

Here are a few photos from the Women's March in New York, day after the Presidential Inauguration. I paired with BUST Magazine to create some clever protest signs. I took inspiration from Leslie Gore, but was partial to the Rizzo sign BUST made. SO GOOD. It was an incredible day and I felt empowered to be part of the crowd. There's so much going on every day, it's hard to keep up. I'll leave you with a few things to keep in mind...

As I post this on the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the sign below feels especially appropriate. What would Buffy do? Slay the patriarchy of course!
