Dressed Up in Burlesque Babes

Twee Valley High // Pin Up Girl Clothing // Burlesque Babes
This dress is incredible and a little risque! I've admired it from afar and now I feel va va voom in it. I've worn it twice already to NYC Popfest and to see my favorite band, Belle and Sebastian at Radio City Music Hall. Thanks to Pinup Girl Clothing (and Jasmin!) for making my dress dreams come true.

A Fairy Tale Moment With Pinup Girl Clothing

I've been sitting on these photos a while now. So much has happened these past few months. My boyfriend and I (amicably) parted ways, my grandfather passed away and my day-job was dissolved. I've taken it all in stride and I'm ready to move on to new and exciting things! I'm applying to companies I feel passionate about and getting ready to potentially start an online store.

For today's post, I wanted to highlight the amazing skirt sent to me from Pinup Girl Clothing. I've worn this skirt multiple times and its quickly become a closet favorite. This top photo was snapped earlier in the day. The rest were an attempt at using a tripod since my loss of a "regular photog." Jason still snaps some occasional shots like my recent bikini shoot. I have a dynamite Pinup Girl dress that might need that photographer eye.

Forgive the weird colors in these photos. The lighting was super inconsistent and I did my best with edits. Otherwise, I think they came out pretty cute and show that whimsical side of my style. A recent Tindr date (lol) told me that my look is very "Disney princess," which I took as a high compliment.

There's more Pinup Girl to come including more ways to style this skirt!

Links I Love: Mad Men Edition

With one episode left, I found it fitting to dedicate this week's Links I Love to Mad Men, a show that has helped redefine the quality of television. I was lucky enough to nab tickets to hear the cast reminice about their favorite scenes. It was a honor to get some insight on what the creator and the actors were thinking.

This link is especially great since they transcribed all the most interesting bits of the event. 23 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About “Mad Men,” According To The Cast And Creator. I definitely learned a few new things about Mad Men and the amazing people behind it. Here are some shots I was able to sneak while there, along with a video of Christina Hendricks talking about the first episode

Now for artistic fun...

She Wore an Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini...

Ok, it's actually pink polka dots, but that's besides the point! This is my first time wearing a bikini and it went a lot better than expected. I've had this sort of chubby, curvy body for as long as I remember, but my self-confidence has wavered with it. Fast diets, apathy and begrudging acceptance have all happened at one point or another. This was always me and I was never ashamed...but I wasn't proud either. It's only now,  in my late-twenties, I've become comfortable in this body, just as it is. That's not to say I don't want to exercise more or eat healthier, but I feel good and I feel like I look good, curves, rolls and all. I've officially become less self-conscious about drawing attention to my body and being afraid to look less than what society deems "perfect."

There's one photo I included that is less than a "perfect pin-up." My face is frozen mid-laugh and the side of my belly rolls in multiple places. It happens to be one of my favorites because I look so darn happy. This has been a crazy year and getting back out there after a break-up has helped me examine my confidence and self-worth. I realized I don't need anyone to tell me they like the way I look. I like the way I look and that's what matters. I've also taken great leaps in conquering anxiety that flared up this past year. It feels good to be mentally healthier in more ways than one.

The bikini itself is by Unique Vintage, who has become a site pretty close to my heart. They treat bloggers well and have a positive message to their brand. This particular suit fits perfectly on bottom, but a little off on top. None the less, I feel wonderfully confident in it. They have a ton of adorable suits for the summer season.
