Fall Fashion and New Hair!

Twee Valley High // Fall Fashion in Central Park

Yay fall! I recently had a picnic in Central Park where I wore this fabulous fall ensemble. The dress is my go-to come November. It's seasonably appropriate and always reminds me of Mad Men. The colors come together in a really nice fashion.

There's a short period of time between wondrous, bright leaves to completely bare trees. It's my favorite time of year when fashion and nature become equally colorful. A friend of a friend needed a hair model so I stepped in. It's shorter than I'm used to, but I love it. It's easy to create the perfect 60's bob, not to mention, my signature flip! I hope to get back to Central Park once more before winter. For now, I'll enjoy the beautiful Bed Stuy brownstones right here in Brooklyn.

Links I Love: Mad Men Edition

With one episode left, I found it fitting to dedicate this week's Links I Love to Mad Men, a show that has helped redefine the quality of television. I was lucky enough to nab tickets to hear the cast reminice about their favorite scenes. It was a honor to get some insight on what the creator and the actors were thinking.

This link is especially great since they transcribed all the most interesting bits of the event. 23 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About “Mad Men,” According To The Cast And Creator. I definitely learned a few new things about Mad Men and the amazing people behind it. Here are some shots I was able to sneak while there, along with a video of Christina Hendricks talking about the first episode

Now for artistic fun...

Lesley Gore, Teenage Voice of Heartbreak, Dies at 68

Leslie Gore was one of the girl group greats and a strong feminist. I feel so lucky to have seen her in 2011 and will always cherish that memory. My go-to karaoke song has always been "You Don't Own Me" and I'm sure it'll stay that way. As my favorite singers get older, it breaks my heart to see them go.

Parks and Recreation ended recently and we all know how I feel about that so here's a slew of articles, homages and positive think pieces (who knew that existed?!) about the show.
I was super saddened to hear about the death of Parks and Recreation writer Harris Wittels. A friend of mine recommended I listen to this podcast he did, which was pretty great.

This is a great recap that emphasizes the touching importance of this show.

I also really enjoyed this article about the idealism the show leaves behind.

The cast reunited on Late Night and the interview is amazing. It definitely made me shed a few tears. I'm not sure if there's ever been a more positive cast.

Lastly, I leave you with this amazing article: A Leslie Knope in a World Full of Liz Lemons. We should all strive to be more like Leslie Knope, someone passionate about their job and an amazing friend.

Mad Men's Last Season

Everyone caught up on this season? It started out annoying, but is getting more and more intriguing. My issue is that Don Draper is kind of the worst. He pretty much never changes and, when it comes to Draper, the story repeats itself continually. I'm also not loving the fashion of this era. Megan Draper is rocking cute, psychedelic minis and awesome big hair, but Peggy is hit or miss (ugh pantsuits!) and the dudes are getting hairier.

Anyhoo, these photos are lovely and I'm still in awe of the magical moment between Don and Peggy last week. The season was way too depressing until then. I'm bummed we have to wait so long for the next half of the season, but I'm glad they're headed in a "not everything is horrible" direction. Anyone else still rooting for Joan and Roger?

This moment absolutely killed me. I re-watched it three times, crying happy tears for their rekindled friendship.

Last-Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

From websites and magazines to movies and tv, I'm seeing costume ideas everywhere I turn. I've also helped create some awesome costumes at the vintage store where I work. This year, I decided to be a Pan Am stewardess. I mean, I kind of already dress like a sixties stewardess most of the time so it's not much of a stretch. I recently picked up a Pan Am bag and now I just need a hat to pull it all together. I might make one out of construction paper or felt. If anyone has any on-the-fly hat making tips though, let me know!

I've had some fun costumes over the years. I thought I'd share some from the past, as well as inspiration of the year. Last year, I was Joan from Mad Men. I sort of have this hair color now so it's funny to see how real the wig looks! For details on how I put my Joan look together head back to my first entry almost a year ago!
Here I am in 2009 as Minnie Mouse. This was my back up costume for this year.
At one point in high school I was Ringo Starr.
At another point, I was a dark-haired Margot Tenenbaum with a friend as Ritchie. Eventually I re-did this costume in an awesome blonde wig though. Another year, I was Max Fischer, which was kind of hilarious. I guess I was pretty into Wes Anderson in high school.
If you're still searching for this year's costume and are coming up empty, check out some of the great costume ideas below. For details on where to get some of the items, click on the source link above each photo.
