What I Wore to the Jazz Age Lawn Party 2015

Twee Valley High // What I Wore to the Jazz Age Lawn Party 2015

This year, Unique Vintage asked me to represent them at the Jazz Age Lawn Party. I go every year and every year I try to create a 1920's getup. I'm a 50's/60's kind of a girl so I struggle with flapper. Unique Vintage came to the rescue with an array of jazzy dresses. I fell in love with this purple dream.

Day 1:

Day one was full-on flapper glam. I felt like a movie star in this gorgeous dress. While there, I ran into my photag friend Rachel. She looked adorable in lace! She shot some fabulous street style and we snapped a few selfies.

Beauty wise, I tried my hand at a wavy hairdo and a shimmery, smokey eye. I used clips to create a wavy front and teased the back all crazy. My lipstick is a dollar store beauty buy and the perfect shade of berry.

Day 2

I really wanted a bright, sunny look for day two. I'm not sure how "period accurate" my outfit is, but it sure was fun. I went nautical and pastel with a sailor dress and a jaunty pink hat. It's very 20's meets 50's in the best possible way!

Twee Valley High // What I Wore to the Jazz Age Lawn Party 2015 I used some adorable Disney brushes to create a light smokey eye. I'm not used to the lack of cat-eye, but it was a nice change for the day. I used MAC's Heroine shade to create the perfect heart shape lip. I was even featured on PopSugar!

Stay tuned for two more Jazz Age posts filled with my own style snapshots!

She Wore an Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini...

Ok, it's actually pink polka dots, but that's besides the point! This is my first time wearing a bikini and it went a lot better than expected. I've had this sort of chubby, curvy body for as long as I remember, but my self-confidence has wavered with it. Fast diets, apathy and begrudging acceptance have all happened at one point or another. This was always me and I was never ashamed...but I wasn't proud either. It's only now,  in my late-twenties, I've become comfortable in this body, just as it is. That's not to say I don't want to exercise more or eat healthier, but I feel good and I feel like I look good, curves, rolls and all. I've officially become less self-conscious about drawing attention to my body and being afraid to look less than what society deems "perfect."

There's one photo I included that is less than a "perfect pin-up." My face is frozen mid-laugh and the side of my belly rolls in multiple places. It happens to be one of my favorites because I look so darn happy. This has been a crazy year and getting back out there after a break-up has helped me examine my confidence and self-worth. I realized I don't need anyone to tell me they like the way I look. I like the way I look and that's what matters. I've also taken great leaps in conquering anxiety that flared up this past year. It feels good to be mentally healthier in more ways than one.

The bikini itself is by Unique Vintage, who has become a site pretty close to my heart. They treat bloggers well and have a positive message to their brand. This particular suit fits perfectly on bottom, but a little off on top. None the less, I feel wonderfully confident in it. They have a ton of adorable suits for the summer season.

Let's Go to the Hop!

Twee Valley High // Unique Vintage Prom
If I had a prom to go to, this dress would be my first pick. It's cheerful and swishes around with a small, built in petticoat. I feel ready for a sock hop! I have an endless amount of dresses, but this is one I'll be saving for a special occasion. It's prominantly displayed in my apartment and makes the prettiest decoration. For today's post, I paired it with my dreamy ice cream purse and a new Ronnie Spector broach, which was a gift from Jason.
